The doctors of Brookswood Animal Clinic genuinely love caring for animals of all shapes and sizes. With years of experience in veterinary medicine and surgery, and a team approach to each case, our doctors will make sure that your pet receives the best care.

Ruth Loomis, DVM

Dr. Ruth Loomis got her BA in English Literature from Washington State University and was considering pursuing a masters in English literature when she had an epiphany and decided veterinary medicine was her calling.  After 2 years of additional schooling to complete all the prerequisites for the veterinary program she was accepted into the School of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University and graduated in 2006.

She has practiced as a veterinarian in the Bend area for over 11 years, first at Central Oregon Animal Hospital and then  at Blue Sky Veterinary Clinic before opening Brookswood Animal Clinic in 2014. Ruth has a special interest in soft tissue surgery and dentistry. Dr. Loomis is a member of the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) and COVMA (Central Oregon Veterinary Medical Association).

Dr. Loomis and her family, which includes her husband Wayne, daughters Olivia and Kylie, dogs Willa and Dulcie, cats Monster and Tommy, enjoy the natural beauty and sense of community that defines Central Oregon.

Dr. Misty Doornek, DVM

Dr. Misty Doornek grew up on a small farm in Northeastern Montana where her passion for animals grew from summers of horseback riding, 4-H, and caring for a variety of family pets. In 2002, she moved to Portland and immediately fell in love with the state of Oregon. She completed her undergraduate degree at Portland State University with a major in biology and then went on to earn a DVM degree at Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. In 2017, Dr. Doornek decided to make a move out of the city to a smaller community. As a lover of the outdoors and looking to escape the rain, she was happy to relocate to Central Oregon and call Bend her home.

With 6+ years in practice Dr. Doornek’s professional passions include preventative medicine, management of chronic diseases, senior pet care, and surgery. She strives to always provide individualized and compassionate veterinary care and enjoys developing long term client and patient relationships. She also has a passion for community involvement along with mentoring others in the veterinary field.\

Dr. Doornek is happy to have found a pet friendly, outdoor community where she can share her free time with her partner, Jonah and their two rescue dogs Barley and Mackie. When not a she can be found mountain biking, hiking with her dogs, or exploring all the Oregon has to offer.

Stephanie Sheen, DVM

Dr. Stephanie Sheen is pleased to join Brookswood Animal Clinic as an associate veterinarian. Dr. Sheen grew up in Texas and received her undergraduate degree from Boston University in journalism. She worked in newspapers as an editor while taking additional classes to apply to veterinary school and was honored to be accepted to Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her DVM - as well as an MBA - in 2013.

After graduation, Dr. Sheen moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, to be close to her family. She was a small animal general practitioner there for 6 years before moving here to Bend in early 2019.

Dr. Sheen has completed hundreds of hours of additional education to further her practice. While in general practice, she became passionate about senior and geriatric care, looking for more comprehensive ways of caring for these well-loved older pets than conventional medicine could provide. She became certified through the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care in hospice and end-of-life care and became fascinated with advanced pain management techniques. This led her to pursue additional certifications in rehabilitation therapy (similar to physical therapy in humans), acupuncture and spinal manipulative therapy (equivalent to chiropractic care in humans) over the following two years. Seeing such positive results from these modalities, Dr. Sheen is also currently studying traditional Chinese herbal medicine to bring this time-tested medical approach to caring for her patients.

Dr. Sheen has particular interest in geriatric/senior pets (particularly arthritis and end-of-life care) as well as the specific needs of canine athletes. She believes strongly in the importance of looking at the pet as an individual, trusting in the body's innate ability to heal, and in using the best of what Eastern and Western medicine can provide to achieve the best possible outcome for each patient.

Dr. Sheen and her husband, Ryan, live in Sunriver and have four dogs - two miniature dachshunds, a Shetland Sheepdog and a Golden Retriever. In her free time, she enjoys reading and training her dogs.

She looks forward to meeting all of the current and new clients and patients at Brookswood!

Michelle Munck, DVM

Dr. Michelle Munck grew up in a veterinarian household in a rural agricultural area of eastern Washington. She dreamed of becoming a veterinarian from a young age and diligently pursued that goal. She attended Washington State University and graduated with honors in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. Her special interests in veterinary medicine include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, wound management, building client relationships and promoting low-stress visits for the patient. Outside of veterinary medicine she enjoys hiking, running, swing dancing, drinking coffee and spending time with friends and family. She has two dogs, Cedar, a huge, white, fluffy mutt, and Tisha, a sweet Border Collie and faithful running companion, as well as a mischievous cat named Squirt.

Dr. Munck will be full time at Brookswood, and will be starting in January 2020.
